President’s Welcome

Welcome to the Henderson Amateur Radio Club! Whether you’re new to the hobby or have already “chased all of the paper,” we’re glad you found us!

Since its inception in 2016, the Henderson Amateur Radio Club, or W7HEN, has become a leader in the Southern Nevada two-way radio enthusiast community. We have developed one of the region’s most comprehensive free-to-use repeater networks. Our expansive repeater network covers the entire Las Vegas Valley, Pahrump, Los Angeles, and parts of San Diego, with a repeater on Pleasant’s Peak.

Our club meets weekly for breakfast at a local casino, and we have weekly nets, including a Sunday evening general net and a Thursday night net for new hams and experienced hams willing to Elmer. We embrace all two-way radio enthusiasts, including those just getting started on radio with something like a GMRS radio license.

Our membership comprises doctors, lawyers, engineers, educators, hospitality workers, retailers, non-profit administrators, military, public safety officials, and almost every other line of work you can imagine. We have members of all ages – from youth to senior citizens. With such a wide variety of members, we also have a lot of different facets of the ham radio hobby represented, including:

  • DXing
  • Fox-hunting
  • Repeater and kit building
  • Rag Chewers
  • Emergency/HTF preppers
  • Internet networking

As a club, we are moving the goalposts on what it means to be a radio club in the 21st century. W7HEN’s approach is all about building community and relationships. Our club was founded on the principle of being a place to “further the exchange of information and cooperation between members, to promote radio knowledge, fraternalism, and individual operating efficiency, and to conduct programs and activities as to advance the general interest and welfare of Amateur Radio in the City of Henderson and throughout the Las Vegas Valley.”

Guests are always welcome at all of our events. That includes your XYL, children, or grandchildren. It also includes you if you are a GMRS operator looking into ham radio. That consists of those who just moved to Vegas and are looking for a club.

I look forward to meeting you at our next event or catching you later on down the log.

Welcome and 73,

Dr. William “Bill” Freeman N4NJJ
