Corporate Challenge Race – Jean, NV

There is still a need for some hams to assist with the race.

The race is being held on April 19, 2023 in Jean, NV.  Radio Operators will meet by 4:30pm.  The race starts at 5:30pm and takes about 1.0 – 1.5 hours.

The Corporate Challenge Race is a bike race that takes place on South Las Vegas Blvd.  Usually, the race starts in Jean near the Terrible Herbst Truck Plaza and runs up Las Vegas Blvd to roughly where the railroad crosses the road.  The riders then turn around and return back to the Starting / Finish Line.  There are all levels of riders, from those that are training for upcoming Tour races, to those who are just out for an hour or two of fun.

There are several roads (mostly dirt roads) that cross over Las Vegas Blvd.  The hams are stationed at the intersections of those roads to: (a) make sure no traffic comes from the cross roads onto Las Vegas Blvd, and (b) report any issues like accidents or breakdowns.  The entire event takes about 2 hours and it is a good introduction into using amateur radio for public events.

The radio side of the event is conducted as a directed net (similar to the HARC Sunday Night Net).  The net will use 446.575 MHz (-) 182.8 Hz.
